Rockstar Turns Miami Into Vice City: Real GTA 6 Cars Hit the Streets as Officials Push Back

Vice City just rolled out of the screen and onto real asphalt. This week, a convoy of real cars modified to look like GTA 6 vehicles cruised through Miami wearing Leonida license plates, IGN reports (Oct 16, 2026). It is the loudest stunt yet in Rockstar's campaign to turn the Magic City into its in-game twin, and not every local official is enjoying the ride.

The GTA 6 car convoy

According to IGN, the cars drove in a tight group and included:

  • A Lamborghini in Vice City police livery
  • A McLaren built to look like a real-life Progen Emerus
  • Real-world takes on the Cheetah, Coquette D10, Tempesta and Manana

Notebookcheck adds that a Chevrolet Corvette was wrapped as the Coquette and that the cars stopped at a local gas station, where an Instagram user caught them parked with the Goodyear blimp, carrying its own GTA 6 ad, hovering behind them. None of the cars name the game outright. The plates and police paint say enough.

Social media reaction has been mostly positive, IGN says. "That Vice City Police Huracan is FIRE," one X user wrote, as quoted by IGN.

Blimps, signs and beach chairs

The cars are only the latest piece. GameSpot lists a Vice City blimp over the city, branded beach chairs and umbrellas on South Florida beaches, and GTA 6 ads spotted in Chicago and New York. GameSpot also reports the $975,000 Kaseya Center project, home of the "Welcome to Vice City" sign, went ahead because the county mayor can sign deals under $1 million without a commission vote.

Axios Miami reports two community tie-ins:

  • Wynwood Walls is giving Miami-Dade residents free admission through 2028, courtesy of Rockstar, plus ten new murals with original in-game artwork, including work by local artists ATOMIK and Tatiana Suarez.
  • A free BAYO block party in Little Haiti on November 22, with Haitian artist Michaël Brun. Tickets go out by raffle at bayotour.com.

Miami officials push back

Not everyone is buying it. "We're depicting Miami like a murder capital," Commissioner René Garcia said, per the Miami Herald as cited by GameSpot. Commissioner Micky Steinberg added that, "philosophically," she feels the county "should not be moving forward."

Notebookcheck reports that Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz objected to tying the county to "a franchise built on crime, drug trafficking, and violence against law enforcement."

On the other side, Chair Anthony Rodriguez reminded colleagues that "this is a fictional game," and Mayor Daniella Levine Cava's chief of staff called the takeover a "love letter" to the city. GameSpot says the mayor wants more Rockstar deals at Miami's airports and seaports, though it is unclear whether those will be approved.

Satire about Florida is nothing new for this series. Rockstar has already said it keeps real politicians out of GTA 6. The debate now is about what happens off-screen.

What's next

  • November 19, 2026: GTA 6 launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
  • November 22, 2026: the free BAYO block party in Little Haiti.
  • Through 2028: free Wynwood Walls entry for Miami-Dade residents.
